Terock's Biography
“I proved them wrong and it feels so good…”
That cocky, headstrong line from his conquering-the-music-world anthem “Feels So Good” is a great intro to the world of Terrance Brock – better known to fans and friends as Terock.
Terock grew up in Tampa, Florida, as a drummer and rabid fan of the exploding cultural phenomenon of hip hop and rap music. While still in elementary school, Terock’s older brother wrote the budding musician’s first rap song, with Terock taking the reigns of his promising career at 12 years old. His influences include the elite of hip hop and rap – Nas, LL Cool J and many others, but he also has an interest in and passion for an unlikely musical era.
“I was very obsessed with music – it didn’t matter what genre it was as long as it sounded good,” he says. “I’m just as big of a 70’s -80’s pop rock fan as I am a hip hop fan, and that’s what makes my music style so much more diverse.”
Terock quickly graduated from performing at school talent shows to supporting act and top-billing on regional tours. As he rose up in the Southern hip hop rankings, Terock says the traditional music business was a frustrating and unnecessary obstacle. He turned that negative into a progressive positive force by starting his own record label he dubbed 8522 Music, which he says is a label to prove that artists can be “major without a major.”
By 2000, Terock’s hard work began to pay off as a member of the Illsyadas, and releasing the single “Trapped in the Game.” Later that year, he recorded a song for WCW Wrestler Evan Korageous. Now with four official full-length releases in his musical body of work, Terock continues to pay his dues by selling cds and performing throughout the Southern U.S.
Terock’s 2003 release Greenridge, the Untold Story garnered him a national distribution deal with RND Distribution. Currently, Terock is finishing his untitled Follow up to his White Kollar Hustlin Album which was released nationally through Southern music Dist. (the distribution company that launched the careers of Ludacris, Lil Jon, Ying Yang Twins, and Pastor Troy).
The diversity that Terock says makes him a bankable act in a field of music that appreciates a clichés over originality is evident in his genre-melding cover of the late 1980s Whitesnake song, “Here I Go Again,” and in the smooth gangster track “Addicted.”
Whether he’s combining his rap talent with classic rock and pop songs or pumping out instant hip hop classics, Terock’s on-stage persona and style is a sexy, gangster-influenced cool fused with creative, strong lyrics and catchy hooks.
As Terock says, he’s bringing quality music back to the hip hop genre and serving as motivation to a younger generation of fans from the streets trying to get out of that lifestyle.
